Opera Mini Beta 4 out now
June 19th, 2007
I just got a mail saying Opera Mini 4 Beta is out now - I checked out the site http://www.operamini.com/beta/ and downloaded the BlackBerry version. After installing the icon for the new version does not appear (the old version 3 was not overwritten). Seems like the BlackBerry version still has some problems - the second file defined in the ALX file is not included in the ZIP file and no modules are installed on the device.
While waiting for a working BlackBerry version check out the new features listed here and this cool apple style Opera Mini vs. iPhone commercial video:
UPDATE: Pointing my BlackBerry Browser to mini.opera.com/beta I was able to download and install the generic high memory version - my device could not be determined.

There are still some known issues with the Blackberry version of the Pearl. Is that what you’re using?
Hi Daniel, I am using a BlackBerry 8300 Curve and there was no Opera 3.1 version for this device too.
I am using the General advanced Midp 2.0 version now and it is great but I would love to see better support for my device from Opera.
Cool, I’ve got a 8703 wonder if I’ll have the same issues? Looking forward to the new features. I use them on my Wii and they rock. Opera browser folks did a nice job, hope to get the same benefits on my BB.
@susan: yes, I think the BlackBerry version in general has this problem. It would be the best to go to mini.opera.com/beta directly with your BlackBerry browser and download the generic high memory version.
I have the 8300 and cannot get it installed either.
I am running the generic 3.1 on my Curve. I downloaded and installed the 4.0 Beta, but after the autoconfig, it comes to the EULA, and I cannot trigger or engage the Accept command, either wih the trackball or the menu key. Did you uninstall 3.1 first?
rrrebo, there is no need to uninstall 3.1, the beta gets installed side by side and doesn’t affect the stable version.
Forgot to mention that I’ll submit bug reports for the issues raised here.
If you can’t click on the ‘Accept’ button on the EULA page, try clicking it with the ‘Q’ button. The ‘Q’ also acts as a SoftKey (I believe).
Daniel, indeed it does. ‘Q’ is the left softkey, ‘P’ is the right. I found the answer shortly after posting this.
I got the generic High Memory version working and it’s pretty nifty so far.
Something interesting to note: if you browse to a WAP-optimized page with the default Opera 4 settings, it tends to display the page in extreme close-up mode, uber-zoom. Anyone else notice this? I would imagine that’s what the “Fit to width” toggle is good for.
rrrebo, I don’t know about the WAP pages and extreme zoom, I’ll have to check.
With regards to the other problem you had, did the ‘Q’ SoftKey solve the problem? Or was it something else?
Yes, I hit ‘Q’ and the Opera 4 beta came right up.
rrrebo, your issue has been fixed already by the Opera Mini team (in internal builds). I guess you’ll see the fix with the next beta or something.
Enjoy browsing with Opera Mini.
@Daniel: I created some bugentries too
I had a problem with authorization on framed websites but it seems the opera team is fixing these issues directly at their proxy server.
tompson, correct. Since all webpages are first formatted on Opera Mini’s server, we’re able to make many changes there without requiring users to update their browsers.
Ok I’m lost..
Now Im referring to updating opera 3 to 4.
My friend and I both updated. He did his over the air and I downloaded the file from the website. We both have the exact same phone and had version 3. That phone being a 8700c blackberry. His updated and and put the icon on his desktop on my phone. Then he clicked on it and then updated. I used the desktop manager and it does not show it. As a matter of fact, every time I open up the desktop manager and go to application loader it keeps showing it with a “install” option like its has never been installed. I’ve tried rebooting it several times and nothing.
Help?
I would try do uninstall it, then download the file again directly from your phone
I seems a little bit odd that Opera did not finish version 4 until now …
