Problem with Firefox Java plugin

As a Java developer I got multiple version of Java installed on my machine – JDK 1.3 / 1.4 / 5 and 6. Recently I experienced problems with Firefox when loading Java Applets with the Java plugin. Every time Firefox tried to load the Applet it did not respond anymore and I head to kill it.
I tried to reinstall the most current JDK 6 version (which is 1.6.0 Update 2) because I guessed my problems had something to do with the Firefox Java plugin using the wrong JRE version – but it did not improve my situation.
After some web research I found this post in the java forums. After removing every NP*.dll files in the plugin directory of my Firefox- which in my case were FIVE (!!) files – everything worked fine again.
