some personal, more technical – by Thomas Einwaller

Yesterday I tried to make some screenshots of my BlackBerry Curve. I found a short step by step description on BlackBerry Cool. So I connected my Curve to my notebook and tried to use the javaloader by executing the following command:
javaloader.exe -u screenshot test.bmp
The result was not the one expected. After typing in the password of my device the following message was returned:
Retrieving screen data... Error: invalid signature
Disconnected
I did a search but found very few pages talking about similar issues. I tried other utilities provided in BlackBerryForums but they are all based on the same tools (see this post). It seems like up to now it is not possible to get screenshots from the Curve using this method.

There are some posts on pinstack.com and most users with the Curve are having no problems with taking screenshots using the either the jl_cmdr application or bbscreenshooter. Now, I have the same error you do, but we seem to be in the minority.

yes, it seems like there are not enough Curve users out there now (which makes us kind of cool
anyway I hope there is fix for this problem soon

The author of the bbscreenshooter program has acknowledged this issue. He says it is a device OS issue with the javaloader application. He’s waiting for a fix from them.

I tried the bbscreenshooter too, but it is not more than a UI calling the javaloader application – so it is obvious that it suffers from this problem

Seems this problem is fixed with the newest OS for the 8300. I upgraded to the Optus OS 4.2.2.114 and now screenshots work fine.

thanks for that info Don, but where did you get that update? I am using T-Mobile Austria and I can not find an update on their site (their site is crap by the way)

I don’t know about a T-Mobile update, I heard the update will work, but you may have browser issues. You should drop by pinstack.com if you haven’t already. It’s a great place for all things BB. Tell ‘em DCookSta sent you.

I already looked at pinstack and blackberryforums – but I think I will wait a little bit with the update. Maybe there is an official T-Mobile update soon. I would really like to see the deleting-messages-problem fixed
