some personal, more technical – by Thomas Einwaller

As the official BlackBerry Curve site says one of its features is to be a “tethered modem”. Today I gave this feature a try. I activated Bluetooth on the Curve and paired it with my Dell Precision M65. The Bluetooth software on my Notebook had an option for creating a modem connection with the paired device and it created a dial up connection. After disabling my wireless LAN connection I double clicked the icon of dial up connection, clicked connect and – wow – online!
I did not expect to get this workin’ that easy. The only drawback of this feature is that it does not connect over the Enterprise Server. Maybe this is positive from security perspective but it will cause extra connection fees – depending on your network operator.

Because the Curve only supports EDGE it feels like back in those days with the 56k modem – but it is enough to check your mails and do a little surfing
